14 April 2012 to 15 may 2012, 31 crazy days, California, Swiss alps, Principality of Andorra, Spain. After a 3 weeks non-stop shooting I locked my self to our studio to edit and deliver the projects at that time 7 videos waited on my server to be finalized, I cleared already 4 and from today things slow down.
Yesterday we release our first web episode “Fabien Barel present” Cam Zink for the first 24hours we had a good score over 30 000 views (pinkbike and zapicks) and more than 70 comments.
I shooted this episode in two days and carried myself all my gear include slider and tripod total 30kg up and down the mountain. I would say it’s not a good example to work in an optimum way you must be two. The assistant set up tripod and slider stabilize the camera go in advance to scout so more efficient than a one man show.

The good news that the swiss television will show the 5 episodes on TV

By the way I just upgrade Adobe CS6. I was really looking for their new speed grade (color grading system), I am really disappointed when I see that you need to transcode from premiere to speedgrade and export one more time to have a final product so much waste of time.

I just get back from Spain where I filmed two new web episodes for Fab Barel Presents series. I was very honor to shoot with Cedric Gracia iconic Mountain bike down hill racer, and Adreu Lacondeguy Spanish wild horse dirt jumper. The first episode with American rider Cam Zink will be release mid may. Enjoy the teaser and random pix from our last trip in Spain.

My Californian is over, random thought and random picture

San-Fransico, San-Jose, Lake Tahoe, Reno, Monterrey, Sea Otter, Mavic world wide launch, World premiere Strength in Number by Anthill film, great laugh with the MTB journalist French gang, see old friend Olivier Giuncetre and great photographer Sterling Lorence, nice to chat with René Wildhaber until 2am about project and life. Had wonderful time with Fabien Barel and his family. Again The Red Scarlet rocked while recording Californian life style and action. I also edit transcode and grade my Red footage on my Macbook pro without any problem. This project should be release mid May.

Finally on my fly back home Lufthansa allowed only one carry on baggage of 8 kilo and checked every bag (first time it’s happened to me with this company). With my two handbags for a total of 30 kilos I was a bit overweight, I just talk gently with the staff and they understand my situation and let me board the plane without any problem. Dialogs resolve any situation, I must say I have traveling a lot with Lufthansa and I have been always very happy with this company.

Last year I had the opportunity to shoot stills and motion on a one-week mountain bike trip for Red Bull.

Special Thanks to Katja Rupf, René Wildhaber, Ross Schnell and Dom Daher.

This jobe makes me really think that the future will be bright for image-maker who is able to shoot still and motion, for the people can share a strong vision. That why for me the Red system it’s an evidence and the perfect tool for my activity.

2009-2011 the big change in few words

2009 best year ever for my photography business full gas the entire year photo: 100%

2010 Start to shoot video for Mavic edit a fist personal project: photo 85% video 15%

2011 Shoot and edit for commercial clients use and learn Final cut pro 7, try and learn Final cut Pro X, switch and learn to Adobe Premier, bought a Red Scarlet: photo 15% video 85%

2012 looks super great, bigger project different clients still learning every day like hell so happy that I switched to Adobe Premier and Red system that really cinema tools. Until mid April 2012 photo 1% video 99%

By the way here is some glimpse of the Adobe CS6 looks really sexy

Also I am really happy and proud to share my demo Reel 2011 special thanks to Michael Denny who wrote the perfect soundtrack for it.

Snow dust snow

I just had two amazing weeks shooting three different projects. The First project was a one weeks shooting (still and motion) across Italy Austria and Switzerland I had to shoot a campaign for a ski company during this weeks everything turn out just great crew, location, timing, weather, we just had a blast time. After a short stop at home, direction with the Scott crew to Toscany in Italy to shoot a video project with the Scott Swiss power team (Florian Vogel, Nino Shurter (former World champs) and legendary rider Thomas Frischkenecht) hot and dusty but so happy to shoot mountain bike. After leaving the dust it was the time to get back on snow to photography a Red Bull event with my canon.

I shoot straight 10 days with the Red Scarlet and has no issue the camera really rock and the image is so beautiful also I have a compact set up with the slider cinevate and a good video tripod, it’s easy to carry and I can put the camera in any way I want and in any terrain, on slope, on the snow etc.

So finally last week I’ve got my last components from Red “the Scarlet Base Production”

With this last piece I had my Micro Red rock Matte box, and the follow focus, plus the sound device a micro Azden SGM-X, and to connect the brain to the mic a wooden camera A box.

I must admit the Scarlet Base Production it’s so well made and so useful to handle that become a masterpiece of my system.
